For those interested in supporting this initiative, see the below letter from the United States Breastfeeding Coalition:The Providing Urgent Maternal Protections (PUMP) for Nursing Mothers Act (S. 1658) would close the coverage gap in the Break Time for Nursing Mothers law, ensuring an additional 9 million women of childbearing age have the right to time and space to pump breast milk during the workday. As we grapple with a devastating baby formula shortage, it is critical that the Senate does all it can to support infant nutrition security. The PUMP Act advanced out of the Senate HELP Committee with unanimous bipartisan support in May 2021 and then passed with significant bipartisan support (267-149) in the House last October. With one vote the Senate could respond to the current calamity and demonstrate its support for mothers and families across the country. Many lactating parents would like to breastfeed and protect their milk supply but cannot because they lack break time and a private space to pump at work. In the midst of the current crisis where parents are struggling to feed their babies, the Senate must act now to support families who are breastfeeding, formula feeding, or a combination of both. The PUMP Act is an important piece of this puzzle. It's critical that advocates come together immediately to fight for passage of the PUMP Act in the Senate before time runs out. If we don't get it done in the next few weeks, all of our progress could be lost. Please sign on to the letter by Wednesday, June 15. The letter can be downloaded at bit.ly/3QiPna6.Thank you for your consideration, and for all you do to support babies and families. ... See MoreSee Less
